Saturday

lP and I went to the neighborhood meeting and I interpreted as best I could for our neighbor M.

We drove out to visit grandma.  We've taken to having our parties in the garage.  We use the ping pong table for ping-pong, lunch and puzzles.

After we got home I was so tired.  I even took a nap in the car but was still so tired.  I took M and G to an astronomy club at the inlet.  The club was so generous in letting us view the Orion nebula through different telescopes.  It was really neat to see those different perspectives.  My neighbor PJ is the president of the club and he gives an awesome Astronomy 101 lecture.  I'm so glad we went.

King's Landing

It was crazy busy so I'm glad we had a reservation.
There were a lot of tricky parts navigating with narrow passages and cross traffic.
 Also, it was incredibly beautiful.

Family History: 4 hour Church!

Once upon a time we lived in Gtowne and drove to church in SA.  M was a baby when we first drove once a month.  By the time M was 2 we were driving 3 times a month to SA.  When we got back to Gtowne we would attend choir with the local ward.  Once a month we would stay in town to sing with the choir and interpret for G in Primary.

For many years church was 3 hours here in SA.  We had Sacrament Meeting,  Sunday School and Primary with interpreters.

3 years ago the deaf group started to have sacrament meetings so our family had 4 hour church.  Hearing Sacrament, Sunday School, Primary, and deaf Sacrament meetings.  When the church instituted 2 hour church, it was 3 hour church for us.  The deaf Sunday School met separately and 2 years ago the RS began meeting separately from the hearing sisters.

In January the deaf children began meeting separately for Primary.  There was now no overlap and no interpreters needed for the deaf.  All classes for the deaf were taught in sign language!  Then the hearing ward shifted times 1 hour.  The bad news is 4 hour church!  The good news is that we can fully participate in hearing ward, then deaf ward.  I was missing the hearing ward as my time and obligation was more and more separated from them.

On Sunday I bore my testimony about my mom and her super power of gratitude.  She could be grateful for a broken leg.  I can be grateful for 4 hour church.

Maybe we'll teach L to sign after all.

Family History: The cookie

P had me tell the kids this story tonight and I figured it should go up for posterity.
P and I were camp counselors for Summerfest when we met.  We each had a group of 8ish teenagers we were in charge of and my girls thought P and me were a match.  We had enjoyed talking and there was a dance coming up.  I couldn't find P for a long time at the dance.  Eventually I did find him and when a slow song came on I thought we might dance.  He was holding a cookie and didn't ask me to dance.  He says I asked him but he was terrified and we didn't dance.  I was contacted shortly thereafter to go and sit in a professors office with a young girl who had gone off campus with an older boy.  P and I never did dance at Summerfest that summer and it has been an awkward conversation ever since.

He's taking me on a trip to California this summer to prove that he really does like me, and to celebrate our 20th anniversary, on our 22nd anniversary because... covid.
